Residual

Etching on Iwami Natural, clay, and thread
2022

Residual is a collection of small clay objects, prints, and thread pieced together to become an intimate, more tangible representation of the themes I work with in my practice. I see these clay fragments as three-dimensional versions of my marks, nestled together in their own small habitats. In particular, the piece of the installation which features a print draped over clay structural components begins to echo the undulation in my work titledVestiges. Among these fragments, printed imagery interacts with the clay fragments. I am interested in how the more structural components of the clay contrast with the organic and delicate qualities of the printed materials, similar to how our own human interventions in natural spaces such as pathways and fences create disruptions which determine our movements.
